Drayton Archaeology (Drayton) is seeking a Registered Professional Archaeologist (or one meeting the criteria). This is a full-time permanent position with benefits in the Bellingham/Blaine, Washington area. The start date is immediately. Salary ranges from $28.00 to $32.00 based upon experience and negotiable. Remote work, when appropriate, is available. Benefits include 401K, medical, sick time, and relocation expenses. 

Drayton works throughout the Northwest on a wide variety of cultural resource management projects including archaeological and historic preservation projects for National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA, Washington State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), Washington Governor’s EO 2102 (formerly 0505), and applicable local regulatory compliance projects according to jurisdictional requirements.

Requirements:

• Eligibility for listing as a Registered Archaeologist or Registered Professional Archaeologist.

• A minimum of 6 months (one year preferred) of experience participating in cultural resources survey, Basic GPS/GIS recordation, and construction monitoring in the Pacific Northwest.

• Ability to operate handheld GPS units (Arc GIS Collector).

• Available for travel throughout Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

• A knowledge of Pacific Northwest site/artifact types, field methods and soils throughout the coast and plateau.

• Particular knowledge in historic, precontact, materials and the built environment is considered preferential.

• Have a self-directed and organized work ethic with the ability to work independently and communicate with project managers, clients, and field crews.

• Ability to manage work time efficiently and complete projects on time and within scope/budget.

• A history of stable work attendance, punctuality, a positive attitude, and reliable transportation is expected.

• Must be able to hike and excavate in rough and difficult terrain, at times in adverse conditions.

• Experience with identification of human remains is not required, but preferred.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Suite is necessary.

Job Details

Work will take place in Washington State, beginning as soon as possible. The position will be approximately 40 percent fieldwork and 60 percent office work, depending on the time of year. Work will primarily consist of cultural resources projects in Washington State. The job involves recording/updating cultural resources, completing daily logs, and working with landowners, governments, tribes and stakeholders.

Drayton Archaeology Field Director (Permanent, Full-time)

Drayton Archaeology (Drayton) is seeking a qualified Field Director to provide archaeological support for our rapidly growing Blaine, WA Cultural Resources Management firm. This is a full-time permanent position with benefits. The start date is immediately.
Drayton provides comprehensive anthropological support throughout the Northwest on a wide variety of cultural resource management projects in compliance with Section 106, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Washington State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), Washington Governor’s EO 21 02, and applicable local regulatory requirements.

The Field Director will provide leadership and oversight field technicians, interns, and
temporary/seasonal employees. This position includes a combination of office and field activities, including oversight and management of project budget and expenditures and coordination with the Principal Investigator and Deputy Principal Investigator to develop project goals and objectives. The Field Director will generate and peer review deliverables in compliance with the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) standards. Responsibilities also include identifying, documenting, monitoring, and protecting cultural resources; managing cultural resources artifacts, records, and geographic information; participating in pre-contact and historical research efforts; and working with landowners, government agencies, tribes, and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Eligibility for listing as a Registered Archaeologist or Registered Professional Archaeologist.
• Six months (one year preferred) of experience participating in cultural resources survey, Basic GPS/GIS recordation, and construction monitoring.
• Have a self-directed and organized work ethic with the ability to work independently and communicate with project managers, clients, and field crews.
• Excellent written communication and organizational skills with the ability to synthesize a wide range of data and meet deadlines.
• Available for travel throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska.
• Ability to manage work time efficiently and complete projects on time and within scope/budget.
• A history of stable work attendance, punctuality, a positive attitude, and reliable transportation.
• Ability to hike and excavate in rough and difficult terrain, at times in adverse conditions.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Suite.

Pay Rate
Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications – Drayton believes in paying our employees what they are worth and pay raises are awarded upon outstanding performance. Drayton’s benefits package includes 2- weeks of paid time off (sick or vacation), health insurance, 401K, and relocation expenses after 90-days of continuous employment and a 1-year commitment to the position.
